Time To Celebrate (Akeem)
|
Post by CASEY WILLIAMS on May 3, 2018 22:52:05 GMT
Casey had smiled when she had seen Akeem’s message on the social medias and couldn’t help but reply to him. She didn’t mind if it was a public publication, besides, being active in medias always was good for the fame as her agent had often told her. She was also his friend, or so she thought and didn’t see why she shouldn’t cheer up on him. She had seen his personal massage telling her where the celebration would be and smiled as she replied to him : ‘I’m on my way out of the studio, I should be there any minute.’ She typed before sending him the message. She had been serious about it. He was making his big break and they got along so of course they would celebrate together, even if it meant that she’d get to be with his friends.
She changed herself into her former clothes and not her studio ones before going to her car and making her way to his restaurant. She had remembered where it was since she had tried it with Franck and her fathers. They had a good time despite being surprised by the fact that she had run into Akeem again. This time, she would, but on purpose since she had promised him a celebration. She also made a stop at a liquor shop to buy a red wine for the occasion to share with him and probably his friends. When she made it to the restaurant, she smiled and walked through the door, wondering how the ambiance would be.

That Casey cheered for him on social medias could mean nothing at all. She was only being nice, encouraging someone she knew and that her fans would be aware she knew of. It showed she was a nice person. Not that Akeem thought she was that devious to do it solely to get the sympathy of the people, he believed she was genuine in her happiness for him, he just didn't think it would get over this.
It took him a little moment to read her message, as his father was obviously very happy for him. She would come? Really?? When he pointed out he was at his father's restaurant, he only took a chance, he didn't mean to force her. Maybe she would just show up, congratulate him, take a glass of wine maybe to toast with him. But maybe she really meant to celebrate. Just in case, he told his father if he could get a table, as he expected someone. The restaurant was croweded but there was always what you could call the chef's table. Sure, it was located in the kitchen, as it was normally the case, but it did mean they would get the chef, in other words his father, cooking specifically for them and the staff taking more particular attention to them while being away from the rest of the dining area. Akeem figured he would end up there, or more particularly on some corner of the kitchen that was unused, but Casey's appearance gave him the right to the table.
Perhaps he should have mentioned his friends were not really there or might only pop up for a drink after reading the messages he sent them. It felt as though he was forcing her to go on a date or something, but he was not really thinking about that at that moment. He waited in the kitchen, getting a cup of champagne to celebrate, curtesy of his father who would not have anything less, waiting for someone to bring Casey to the kitchen.

Casey smiled when she made it to the restaurant and was almost surprised not to see anyone. It was true that Akeem didn’t have a circle of celebrity friend as large as she had and no doubt if she wanted to celebrate big she could invite just about anyone to the party but she could understand him to want to celebrate with his family. She would gladly just spend a bit of time with him and go if he preferred to be with his closest friends and family.
She wasn’t surprised to see that it was crowded but she definitely noticed that Akeem wasn’t around and when a member of the staff found her they lead her towards the kitchen where they said to her that he was waiting for her there. She nodded and curiously followed the staff.
When she was in the kitchen and found Akeem she smiled. “Here’s our winner.” She said teasingly as she showed her bottle. “I told you I would come once you got your contract.” She never backed on her words when she said that she wanted to spend time with someone.

Akeem didn't want to crowd his father's restaurant too much. It was a pretty popular one, it was always pretty full and not only because you may find a celebrity or two once in a while. After all, like many other chefs, his father had appeared on television before and published a few of his recipes.
He was not drunk by any means but he had already emptied his glass once by the time she arrived. He heard her as she got in before he could see her. He turned around with a bright smile, stretching his arm to show the 'winner' in all of his glory. He then laughed as he dropped them. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves, they okay'd a pilot, nothing's entirely won yet. But it's pretty nice." There were still so many things that could go wrong, he was aware of it, but it was still so much. He was offered a chance and he didn't mean to waste it.
He laughed again when she said she promised she'd come. "You did. And aren't you lucky, you get the chef's table for it. A glass?" he offered as he showed her the champagne. He didn't know if she drank but, at the same time, it allowed him to show her the said chef's table. His father was there too, cooking for the two of them. Akeem was trying not to look at him, unsure of what he would say of this situation. He had a little sorry smile at Casey instead. "I might have exaggerated a little about the celebration, it's basically just us here and a bottle. But I can offer you a meal if you want. And champagne."

Casey smiled when she reached Akeem’s spot in the kitchen. She liked the idea of not being in a crowded space and was actually surprised that he wasn’t celebrating with all of his friends. It was true that they didn’t have the same connections, but it still surprised her. She usually hung out with people who were famous already, thanks to her parents. She knew a handful of famous ones so she was used to social gatherings that were big and where you had to talk to anyone and everyone.
She knew that he still had to show his worth with the pilot and see how many people would watch it but she had faith in him, he seemed talented at what he was doing and that’s what you needed in the industry and you needed something to tell you apart from the rest you were competing with. “That’s still one step forwards, congrats!” She said honestly.
She grinned at him and nodded when he suggested a glass of champagne. “Sure, we’re celebrating, after all! I got you this.” She added, showing him her bottle of a good quality wine. She shrugged a little at his apology. “It’s alright, I don’t mind it much, besides, it’s nice to have such a spot in there, and our personal cook.” She added teasingly, referring to his father. Besides, the man knew what he was doing and it was sure to be delicious. Though, she wouldn’t stay longer than necessary if he wanted to be with his family instead.

He would have the time to celebrate with his friends. Anyway, it would have been too crowded for his father's restaurant. Not to add that he would have to tell them they would likely not be a part of it. He had to do it following normal filming schedules while they had their own jobs. Plus he had a chance of hiring professional actors and although he doubted he could afford big names, it was quite a chance. But it was mostly the schedule hat would make it impossible. For now, he didn't want to think about all of these things and constantly pushed them away whenever they popped up in his mind.
He laughed. Casey understood how these things worked, the usual path it took. It was another thing he would have to explain to them as his friends with experience must not have done much more than small stage productions and work as extra. "Thanks. But I don't want to talk about it right now. I just want to enjoy this feeling before I get to work." He knew he would have plenty in the following days.
He smiled seeing her wine. He looked at it. It was a really good one for sure, since even the one suggesting wine to the clients whistled. But the bottle of champagne was open for now and wasn't it the mandatory drink for celebration? He poured her a glass since she agreed to one.
He looked back at his father who smiled and nodded at what she said. He inquired about any allergies on her part, for the meal. "Good thing no one reserved it for today," he said, speaking of the chef's table. His father waved his hand to show he wouldn't have cared and placed his son somewhere close anyway, even if he had to place a bar stool by a counter in a corner. "I hope you're hungry," he said, unable to find anything better to add to that. He knew a lot of actresses tried so hard to look their best that they barely ate but he hoped it was not her case. Not only because his father, a well-known chef, was there and cooking for her. He was just glad his mother had not shown up again. she did when he came to share the news. She probably meant to finish with her work before joining him. She was in charge of the management here. That would be awkward. A good thing his sister was not there, because he wouldn't know where to put himself.

Casey smiled back at him and nodded, pretended to zip her mouth when he said that he didn’t want to have to think of the work that he would have to do for his show to get on air and become popular. She knew how the business worked after all. Her family had been in it since so long and she had lived in it since she was a kid so she ended up knowing the process.
“I promise I won’t say anything related to this while we celebrate.” She said solely before taking a sip of the champagne that was quite delicious. She liked to be here, at Akeem’s restaurant. It was nice and the atmosphere didn’t strike as a snobbish one. It was warm and welcoming. She had always had a soft spot for those sorts of places and they made her feel at home.
“Indeed!” She said with enthusiasm. She told to his father that she had no allergies and smiled at Akeem. “I sure am, does he have a special meal for those occasions?” She asked to Akeem curiously. His family seemed to be grounded and she liked that too. They didn’t treat her like the superstar she was and it was a nice break. Sometimes, it could be tiring to be around fans constantly since you had to give them time too. They were the ones who made you famous!

He might not have famous parents, well he sort of did but not in her level, but Akeem worked enough already to know how things worked. Not to add that he made films, or at least videos, before. It might be a little simpler than actual television episodes, but it was ultimately the same thing. He just felt a bit more pressure. Sure, the videos uploaded on his channel were made to be watched and liked by people but there was not as much pressure to succeed. If you just fell short by one percent on what they expected the show to make, you could be cut. He really had to nail it.
But, for tonight, he didn't nee to think of that. He would have plenty of time for it later. Tonight, he could just enjoy his success without thinking about how long it may last. At least he could say he did it. It would be one more step to show he was more than simply an actor but also a director and a screenwriter.
He nodded, thankful. She too was here to celebrate and nothing more. The kitchens were always so noisy and crazy. Everyone was yelling orders, moving around as though in a dance, to get the ingredients and cook them properly. And his father looked at it all to make sure it was perfect and ran smoothly. He looked at the man. Akeem loved a few Egyptian food, like the koshari, but he didn't know if it was something his father would make. Having him heard he got some fresh quality fish, he figured that was what they'd get.
"Oh, you invited someone?" Akeem startled when he heard his mother. Great, now she had to meet his parents and they may get the wrong idea. Then again, didn't he meet her fathers? "This is my mother, Helen," he tod her as he then introduced Casey to his mother. "She psyched me up to get to my meeting with the producers and when she heard the news, she wanted to congratulate me," he explained. He knew it was weird whenever he introduced his mother. His father was Egyptian, he looked very much like him. His mother was a blonde-haired woman from L.A. All he got from her was his eye color really. Maybe a bit the shape of the face. But people tended to focus on the color of the skin and hair. He figured she would eat too, or drink a little more. He didn't know if she had dinner already or not, he didn't ask earlier. With all the food made here, it was a kitchen after all, it was hard to tell whether something here was meant for her or not.

Casey was happy for Akeem. She knew that it was just one step closer to reach his dream and wanted to support him. They were friends and she thought that he could make it where he wanted to be if he invested all his might. She knew that working in the industry was a lot of hard work and time given, sometimes freely and poorly but when you reached success you really were proud of who you became. She also understood that not everyone was in her situation and had an easier access to fame than others. Though, she still worked hard; she practiced her vocals, dancing and acting every day and woke up early to exercise before going on sets and even did it again after the sets. She just didn’t go on crazy diets for roles but instead kept herself healthy with a good amount of exercises. Wasn’t she the one who asked for deserts the other day, after all?
She smiled when she saw someone else walking in, a woman with blonde hair who questioned him. She nodded when Akeem explained to her that she was his mother. Sure, it was a surprise to see that she was blonde but who was she to talk about odd families? Didn’t she have two fathers? Sure, she had a mother, but she really didn’t consider her as family as much as she was with her dads and she thought that Akeem accepted that so she didn’t react much to see that this woman was his mother. “Casey Williams. It’s nice to meet you.” She said as she smiled softly at his mother. She probably already knew her name but she always felt like she needed to introduce herself first for proper interactions.
She grinned at Akeem’s words. “It worked, look at where you are now!” She said teasingly to him. A bit of pep talk before an audition was always good.

It was a little strange to share this moment with Casey. He couldn’t help but feel he should be spending it with his friends. They congratulated him earlier but he didn’t want to go out. He thought about sharing it with his family, here, as it was still a little surreal. In truth, he was not ready to fully celebrate just yet, as he knew there were still so many things that could go wrong, but he didn’t want to say it to his friends. It was why he was here. And Casey? It was like asking someone out without thinking they’d say yes, he asked without thinking much about it, just to see her reaction and here she was. Was he happy about it? Yes, he supposed he was, but that too seemed a little surreal to him.
Akeem knew it was hard to see his mother in the woman. He was not exactly a blonde-haired, fair-skinned boy. Neither was his sister, really, who might only have their mother’s eyes to prove they were connected. At the same time, what better proof to show that he was American? Yeah, his family originally came from Egypt, but even his father came from the States and his mother was a good hint of that. Unless you thought his father married for a visa. But considering his career and his restaurant, that could be pushed away easily.
Was his mother waiting for a reaction out of Casey? She was checking her up for sure, but Akeem didn’t know if it was to see whether she would question their parentage or question her relationship with her son. Akeem looked away as he thought that, hoping not to think it again. “We worked together on my last gig,” he explained, hoping it would be enough. But could it really be enough, especially for a mother? He could see her thoughts as they formed in her head, thinking that they must have really hit along during that last show for her to be here.
He laughed at what Casey said. “Yeah. Lots of work ahead of me but I got it. That’s what I came for after all.” He was not scared by it. Not yet. Something in his gaze showed perhaps that he still could not believe about what was happening. Or perhaps it was that Casey showed up. Or just the champagne’s bubbles getting to his head.

Casey knew that she was famous and because of that, she could leave quite an impression on others when she came to meet them but she too wanted to get to know Akeem better and didn’t mind celebrating with him a little. She would make sure to let him have his time with his family too. She did say she wanted to celebrate with him a little and kept her promise. She had always been honest but some people seemed to think that she wasn’t that type of person.
She nodded when his mother was introduced and at what Akeem said. “We did, he has talent but I know how hard it can be to make a name here.” After all, a lot of people resided in Los Angeles for fame. It wasn’t news to anyone. Some were luckier than others but quite honestly, she didn’t care with who she was spending time with as long as she wanted to do so. She just didn’t want people’s presence to be pushed on her; she wanted to have a private life too.
She took a sip of her champagne and smiled at him. “Indeed but you’re allowed to have a bit of a break for now.” Breaks were always welcomed, and important in their line of work since it never was a safe job.

Akeem kept eyeing towards his parents. He did not think they would mind Casey’s presence, their son had the right to be with whoever he wanted. He was not afraid of their reaction either. She was not the first celebrity his father cooked for and while his mother might not have met as many, he figured she would fret more towards her fathers than Casey herself. She was not exactly of their generation after all. He was more worried about what they’d make of her presence here. He tried to minimize it by pointing out they worked together and she cheered him up when he stressed out a bit about this meeting, but he knew they could argue she didn’t have to congratulate him in person. Maybe, but that didn’t mean they were flirting and he really hoped they would not think that. It was already embarrassing when your lover had to meet your parents for the first time, it was worse when it was a friend they thought could be your lover.
His mother assured that she was not worried for her son, he always knew what he was doing. She was right about that. He learned with time what to expect during casting, not to get his expectations too high and what it meant to be professional on set. Just because he was ‘that one guy’ who appeared in one or two episodes of your favourite show did not mean he didn’t know the game. He just had fewer recurrent roles. But this might change, and his love for directing might finally show. He was quite excited about that.
He laughed. A break would be nice. “I’ll have to stop my brain from imagining the scenes and how I’d like them to be filmed.” He loved being behind the camera, as much as he liked being in front of it. As he took another sip of champagne, he realised he never invited her at the table. “Sit, sit,” he told her quickly while pointing at the chair. “I don’t know what I was thinking not to tell you, you could sit down.”

Casey did hope that she didn’t make things uncomfortable. She didn’t plan to stay too long but accepted the meal his father had offered to her. Not because she thought she deserved the best treatment but because she didn’t want to refuse an offer from such a good cook. She would definitely come back to his restaurant and not because she knew that it was Akeem’s father who owned it. She didn’t think they were flirting, but was dead serious when she said she wanted to show her support. Sure, she might think that he looked cute but she wasn’t stupid enough to fall for the first person who came to her, besides, she had suffered enough from her deceased boyfriend that she was taking a bit of a safe step one at a time.
She didn’t worry about his parents, mostly because hers didn’t worry about her talking to other people. It was part of their work and she was happy to meet his mother who seemed to be pleasant thought it might be a bit strange and slightly awkward.
“Keep that for work, it’s unhealthy.” She said to him, knowing that she would sometimes do that too in the middle of the night. It was annoying but she supposed that it was her job. She smiled at him; he didn’t need to be nervous around her. “That’s fine, it’s not like I have to absolutely sit down.” She reassured him. Besides, it was nice standing up a bit.

Akeem didn't want his parents to get ideas. Not that he didn't think he couldn't aim for someone like Casey. He would not stop himself from flirting with a girl because of her status. But his parents may think he liked her for inviting her to celebrate, especially since they were alone, or maybe she was the one flirting by being supportive, or they were covering things up by saying it was all there was to it. Akeem figured that the moment he would date someone, he'd tell them, he didn't see the need to hide anything. But they were not there. He didn't even sing that song with her at the karaoke and if he kissed her, it was because of work, not because they wanted to kiss each other.
They didn't try to stand in between them or ask to many questions after all. They did share a glance between each other before his mother said she would eat at the office since she still had some work to do.
He looked at Casey and laughed. "I don't know about unhealthy, but you're right, I'll leave that for another day." He would have time later to imagine how he could change the scenes. It was unbelievable that he might just be able to make it the way he wanted it, now that he would have the means to do so.
"Maybe not, but I'm inviting you at the chef's table and not even offering you a seat." They would have to sit now though as entrees were served, by his father no less, while he finished the main course for them.

Casey wasn’t worried about the fact that they were alone celebrating his success. She only had one word and she used to stick to it. She wasn’t like her mother, whom she didn’t want to talk of much. She had let her down so many times and she often thought that the only thing she got from her mother was her talent and looks, she also knew that she had her father’s talent, but she didn’t want to give false hopes to her new friends either.
It was nice though and she liked the ambiance there was around here. She wouldn’t mind if his parents had questions to ask her though but it seemed that they wanted to leave them alone. She nodded at what he said and smiled back at him. It was nice and they needed to celebrate. It was one huge step for him and she knew how hard it could be to have a name.
She laughed a bit at his words. “That’s fine, I’m not upset.” She reassured him before taking a seat. She could do that on her own. She tended to be pretty independent. “It looks delicious!” She chimed when she saw the entrees.
