The Tale of the Dancing Bear

Meg always enjoyed studios like the one that Hiro had shown to her. There was something about these that showed her that she didn’t have to think about particular moves and could just do as much as she wanted. The studio she had could do the same, but it didn’t have people who worked with instinct, they were filled with different genres of dancers. She had nothing against them; she couldn’t blame them to be professional but she thought that dancing was about passion and not about rules.
She shook her head. “I didn’t have much time yet.” She had been busy with her competition and it required lots of practice hours but she didn’t think that Hiro would know what she was talking about. “I’ll certainly go back when I can though.” She added with a smile as she thought about it. The more she did, the more she wanted to do so.
“It’s different.” She said to him when he asked her about her studio. “Sure, I can dance as much as I want but I liked it a lot in yours.”

Hiro thought the only big difference between his studio and hers, other than the lack of walls, was that most people there didn't take dancing lessons. They tried moves without really knowing what they were called, or caring for that mattered, they only did them. It was the most important after all. He never bothered to know how it was supposed to be done. Dancing was art, art was not meant to follow strict rules. Maybe the competitions she did were like that, but he never competed in those, so he didn't really care. He also didn't blame her for not having the time to come over again. At the same time, it could be interesting to see someone who actually knew what she was doing. He did all sort of work himself and, if you think about it he didn't even get why he showed her the studio in the first place, let alone expect her to come back. "You don't need to justify yourself," he told her. Or promise him anything, whether she meant it or not. She assured him it was different though. More than just the fact no one were real, professional dancers or learning from professional dancers. Or perhpas it was precisely why it was different. "What's so different in mine?" Because she was talking of dancing. MADE BY ★MEULK

The more she thought about it, the more she wanted to go back to that studio. It was fun and she had enjoyed herself a lot when she was dancing with other dancers. It was the passion that she loved about them and the fact that they didn’t mind trying new things either. She liked that and wasn’t afraid to try new genres too or trying their moves. It was much more serious at the studio but it was also for the competition.
She smiled a bit embarrassed when he said that she didn’t have to justify herself. It wasn’t that, she really wanted to be back there and dance with them. “Still, I’ll find some time to come back before the competition, it should calm my nerves down.” She said with a nod. It would be fun and she could also show them a few moves too. It could be a fun Latin dance open class.
“I don’t know, it’s probably in the atmosphere, the ambiance.” She said unsure herself of what was different.

hiro had taken dance to have something for himself. And it turned out he was good at it, just like he was with acrobatics. Unlike school or keeping a job or speaking up, all things reproached to him over time. He couldn't help it if he was the kind not to talk unless he had something meaningful to say. He felt it was easier to live by in foster care, both with the adults and the other kids, if you didn't speak up and let them know you were around. There might be a brief sign in his face to show he reacted to the word competition. Ah, yes, she was doing dance competition. He saw some on television, the whole 'America's best dance crew' or whatever it was called. 'So You Think You Can Dance' too. Not often though, since he had no television at home, but he managed to see some now and then. She said she liked the atmosphere at his studio, that it was the different thing between theirs. "Less competitive?" There were dance offs, sure. And some people could become aggressive on occasions, but he didn't know how much 'competition' there was, not in the sense she meant it with her studio for certain. "We might see there later then," he added, since he was not fully done with work and she had bags she no doubt wanted to bring home. He said might though, as he still didn't want her to feel entitled to go just because they met again. MADE BY ★MEULK

It was hard for Meg to find the correct words that would describe Hiro’s studio. It wasn’t about proving the others that you had more talent than they had. It usually was like that in studios and you didn’t feel like you needed to respect the steps and what not when you were dancing in the streets. You were more…free than you were when you were in a studio. She liked both environments though, because she had always been working in the studio with her sister, but dancing with other people who enjoyed dance as much as she did was great.
She nodded at him and smiled as he pointed out they might meet again. “Indeed, I will definitely make a step there whenever I have the time for it.” Her competition mattered to her a lot, it was so she could prove her talent and she enjoyed doing those. Sure, she had things that she needed to respect in the choreographies but it was what she had always been doing so she didn’t see what else she could be doing. She had been content teaching at her sister’s studio other than that.
She was still happy that he had taken the time to talk to her. “It was a nice surprise to see you here though.” She said with a smile knowing that his break might not be a long one.

Anyone else would have been excited that someone as passionate as he was about dance wanted to join him to his studio and said she liked it, perhaps, in a way, more than hers, at least on some aspects of it. Another person might have ended up talking to her until his boss came to get his ass back to work. Hiro was not like that however. He rarely talked and never a lot when he did. You could blame it on his education, he would more on his quiet nature. As far as he remembered, he had always been like that. As for the studio, he loved his for the freedom you had. Most of them didn't know the proper steps or how they were called, they just did it. It was the proof that dancing was something anyone could do. He was not really into competition. He could follow a choreography but he preferred to do freestyle. "You'll be able to get there on your own?" he asked. She went there only once, for all he knew, she may not remember exactly how to get there. It was not like they had signs directing you. While he might not have paid attention to her shopping bag, he still noticed it. No doubt she'd want to put it away before going. "I finish in about two hours," he told her, thus suggesting she could come here and let him take her like he did the last time, in case she was not sure exactly where it was. He nodded. Yes, he had been a surprise. Maybe he didn't look surprised here or as enthusiastic as she was, but he felt it too. MADE BY ★MEULK

Meg pondered about his question; she sure thought that she could make it on her own. It wasn’t too far and she thought that she remembered the bus and the path they had walked to get there. Besides, she would easily hear loud music no? She was still happy to have met Hiro again even if it was on his job time. She wouldn’t make fun of him for having such a job. Hers was pretty risky too. Sure, she could teach choreographies but at the same time, dance was only made of competition. One day they would like you and want you everywhere and the next people forgot about you. Being a professional dancer wasn’t like being a musician or a singer or even an actor. That’s why she decided to act as well since it gave her more opportunities in the long run.
“I think so…” she said with a nod and smiled confidently. Why wouldn’t she? Though, she did study him a little and thought about what he said. “I have some time today to come back to the studio though.” She added when she figured that he had wanted more of her company. She wouldn’t mind; since it meant that she could have a dance session that was fun. That way she could put her bags at home and come back to meet up with him.

It was true, Hiro might have preferred to head back home first, perhaps change clothes and have a shower but he didn't really mind. After all, if he decided to head for a dance, he would likely sweat there and have to shower again. He was not the kind to take twelve showers in a day, so he might as well do that only after. It was not like he was sweating a lot. He might just not smell all too well, but he could take that too. He may not be used to being so close to a cigarette but it was not the first time he smelled it or had its scent stick to his clothes. Hiro was not asking her out. He didn't even think of this. He merely offered to accompany her, since he might go there as well. She claimed she could get there on her own. He nodded. Whether that was true or not, if she got lost it would be on her. The way she talked, he assumed she didn't need his help and wouldn't come back. He shrugged at that. "Alright," he merely replied. He really assumed he would see her only at the studio and that she would not come back here at the tie he gave her. Speaking of which... "I have to get back to work," he said to indicate they had to leave the personnel's room and get back to the toy store. Before doing that, he made sure to put his bear head back on. MADE BY ★MEULK

Meg sure had been surprised when he suggested that they could go back to his studio. She was looking forward to that but still found it surprising. He didn’t seem like the kind of person who enjoyed being surrounded constantly by friends. To her, he looked more like a looner than anything else except when he was dancing. A lot of artists were the opposite of how they acted for real when they were on a stage. She was a good example; she did Latin dancing and certainly didn’t look like a Latin dancer, for the mere fact that she was blonde.
She would like going back to the studio and nodded at him, before walking out of the employee’s room before she made her way back to her studio. She wasn’t staying far from that mall so she only had time to practice there and when she saw that it was the time to head back, she returned and waited for Hiro to show up. She knew the shop he was working for so she came there ten minutes earlier to wait for him to show up. She did want to know the correct way to make sure she wouldn’t get out at the wrong stop.

With Megan gone, Hiro resumed his work. He was not paid to help customers buy the perfect plushies for their children, he was paid to get them intrigued by the shop and stop by despite them not meaning to in the first place. With his unexpected break over, he returned outside dressed as a bear to dance and wave and try not to die from all the kicks in the calves he got out of some of the funny ones. It was not a great job, there was no denying it. It sucked really, but it was a job and all he cared about one was that he would be paid for it. Didn't even need to be a lot of money, just enough to pay the rent, his bills and some food. When he was finally done, he only wanted to head back home. He bet he smelled, mostly due to the man before him who smoked like a chimney, since he never sweated all that much in the first place. But there was some sweat too. He could use a shower. He was surprised though when he walked out of the shop with his bag on his shoulder to see Megan standing there. His eyes widened a bit. She was here? Why was she here? Oh, she meant to go to the studio after all, with him? He shook off the surprise real quick. "Hello," he told her as he joined her. MADE BY ★MEULK

Meg was waiting for Hiro for a bit of time until she saw him walking out of the shop and smiled at him as she headed towards him. “Hello.” She said happily now standing in front of him. A bit of time at his studio wouldn’t hurt. It would surely help her creativity too and help her to relax before the big day. Even if she was a hard worker who rarely did take breaks because she focused on the competition, she did think that it would do her good out there.
“I thought a break would do me good.” She said to him in case he wondered about why she agreed. She had been curious about why he invited her but she decided that she wouldn’t nag him into knowing about it.
She stretched her arms a little and waited for him to lead the way.

He really couldn’t believe she was there. He doubted her real desire to go to the back alley for a dance off and never expected her to be here. He didn’t think she was here waiting for someone else. The coincidence would be too great and he didn’t believe in that sort of thing. If she knew she would be here later in the day, especially around a time he said he finished working, he expected her to try not to be too close to the shop. To further prove she came for him, she smiled brightly at him and came to his side as she greeted him. At first, he didn’t know what he should do to what she told him. A break, right. And she was her bubbly self again. Why he should be surprised when he saw her only like that, he didn’t know. Maybe because it was such a high contrast with himself. Eventually, he nodded and readjusted his bag on his shoulder. “I’ll take you there then.” He didn’t know how much energy he had left. He performed more demanding dances than what he did but he was not in such a stuffy costume normally. He did hope she wouldn’t mind the smell of cigarette. He couldn’t say he liked it too much but with her around, he couldn’t seriously ask her to stop by his house so he could take a shower first. He had not even been certain to go to the alley in the first place but he figured he would now. He walked down the street so they could take a bus. He still had no means of transportation and even when he did, it was a bike. Not something very glamorous to take a girl on a ride, unless it was some kid. He could walk too but it was a long stretch and he wasn’t sure she would be up for it. He knew the silence would ensue after that. He had never been a great conversationalist but he figured she might be one to like to talk, if only because she seemed his polar opposite with pretty much everything else. “So you’re doing competition...” Hopefully she would take the bait and fill in the silence without him needing to talk much, leaving her to think they had a good talk and not some awkward ride. Meg was happy and looking forward to go to his studio again. She wanted to see the people again and was hoping she would find faces that she would recognize. She wanted to get to know them better and even show them more dance moves. It was going to be fun and she was glad that he had invited her.
“Wonderful!” She said happily. She noticed the smell of cigarette but she didn’t say a thing about it. He looked tired and she couldn’t blame him. It must be horrible to be stuck in a stuffed bear for a long time and she wouldn’t want to happen to her. She had a good job and she wouldn’t give it up but she did take the competitions at heart and was hoping that this little break would help her to unwind.
She nodded when he talked about her competitions. “I do, I like it and I hope that we’ll be ready on time.” She was very professional about dancing even if she didn’t look like it in the first place.

Hiro had people being impressed by his dance moves before, asking him where he learned all of this. some even wanted for him to show them. He never had someone quite like Megan though. Sure, some people said they were dancing too, they even tried to dance with him while he performed, with less than stellar resutls in his opinion, but he never had someone say they came from a studio, imply they may be interested. She even suggested the time before that he joined her. Not that he would do that, he doubted he could afford it or have the time for it, but it was still surprising to be told all of that. And now, here she was, meaning to join him at his studio, meaning to dance with him and the others. She was not showing off or trying to learn from them, she just wanted to dance with people who enjoyed dance just as much as she did. And that was a little weird to Hiro. He would have thought a girl like her, who did social and latin dances and competitions, would not even give a look at the ones in that alley. He saw opportunists in his life, he could deal with those, but he did not see what she could get from it, making her strange in his eyes. Still, he said he would take her to the alley so he would. He had wished she was more of a chatterbox though. Had she chose to do the conversation on her own, answering questions he didn't even think about asking, it would have been easier. Hiro was not really good at socialising. He didn't dislike people, far from it, he was jsut not a good conversationalist. It seemed hwoever that she wanted him to take part in this conversation. He hesitated at first before asking. "When is it?"MADE BY ★MEULK

Meg was thoughtful for a moment when Hiro asked her when the competition was. “In about two months.” She said. “I’ve been preparing myself for this since what seems forever but I think that with a few more practices we’ll be ready.” She said also talking about her own partner. “I’m glad I took the time for a break because I don’t think I would have unless you suggested it.” She admitted. She was too focused on her job for that, well, on her choreography. She wanted to have a name apart from her sister and not be in her shadow. Don’t get her wrong, she loved Skye a lot and appreciated his husband but she had dreams of her own and she didn’t want to be seen only as Skye’s little sister. Her dream might be a bit selfish, she was willing to admit it but she had been dying to be told apart for so long that she put a hold on any fun she might have.
When Hiro invited her, however, she couldn’t say no and ended up coming with him. She didn’t regret it though, their little break through earlier had been fun and she was willing to do it again.
