"You know what's going to happen once we get there?"
Jerry looked at Sarah. They made no official announcement to their fanbase about her being pregnant. The important people knew, their families, close friends, and colleagues who'd be impacted by it. Sure, there had been some rumours, but it had technically not been the first time. Every time Sarah looked like she took an ounce of fat or had a rounder stomach because of her shape on a picture, they claimed she was pregnant. It was like Jerry, who was rumoured to be having an affair once just because he was seen with another woman a lot. Didn't matter that they were just friends and did nothing inappropriate together at all. But, this time, it would be harder to pass it as just a rumour.
Jerry would have been fine not saying anything until they baby came to life. But they needed some supplies and Sarah did argue, although very softly as she was not the argumentative type, that certain things would be best bought in person. Jerry jumped on the idea. He had no problem going there and he didn't see why they needed to throw a baby shower to have others buying them stuff when they could afford it themselves.
They were in front of one such shop. The 'best', according to people close to him with kids themselves or who bought baby stuff in the past. They had everything. And it fit all sorts of things such as eco-friendly, made in the states, homemade or charity-supporting sort of labels that were important to think about apparently. Once there, only one conclusion would be drawn by their fans. "Ready?" He was smiling himself. He had no reason to be nervous. He told her he was happy of the news. He was not goign to change his mind because they had to choose what type of crib to put in the baby's room. Good thing they moved to a bigger place, because that room didn't exist in their previous apartment. But that meant they had to fill it now and Jerry was leaving much of the decoration to Sarah. But he came nonetheless, for support and because he thought it could be fun. He was curious to see how much was 'everything'.

Sarah knew, she was aware that the rumours would spread faster than a disease. She was often targeted with pregnancy rumours back then and only because she looked like she had a rounder belly. She could barely imagine now that it would actually be true and that the little person in her tummy would grow too. However, there were things she would rather buy in person, and furniture for their baby was one of these. “That’s what happens when we’re famous.” She told him. It took her some time, but she was mentally prepared and not to add that she had Jerry by her side if anything happened so it helped to calm her down quite a lot.
They might not throw a baby shower but she wanted to throw a gender reveal one and she didn’t want to ask people for baby furniture when she could buy them herself. It’s not like they needed the money after all. She looked at the store and nodded her head. “Yes.” She said with confidence before she led the way towards the shop. It would be fine. She sure hoped so at least.
“To the point of no return.” She said when they made it inside the shop. She wanted to look for cribs and made sure that they would be genderless. There were a lot of animals that could be featured in baby rooms now and she wanted something cute.

Maybe the rumours were meant to happen. Like the ones that they were getting married. It was the price for dating the same person for years, some people were just hopign to see it go all the way, with the big ceremony and the family. Jerry was not against it, but on their terms, not because fans were wishing to see it happening. Well, better to have this sort of wish from them than to have them wish for their breakup.
At least Sarah didn't look too nervous about it. Maybe she was just too happy to have a look at the baby products to think about that. He was glad. She was too much of a ball of nerves at times. "And when someone's too pretty, people can't stop looking at every picture of them," he teased her. He was referring to her, as she was the model. And if people thought he was the pregnant one, they were some really weird fans...
He followed her into the store. He chuckled at the way she said it but at least she was not backing out. They could have asked a family member, or a home designer, but he liked the fact Sarah wanted to look for herself, make her own decisions. The place was rather big and a bit overwhelming, but it also excited Jerry. it was new, like an adventure, and he was always up for that. He would have to remember to follow her calmly and not jump at everything he would see.

Sarah didn’t mind most rumours even if sometimes their families would end up questioning them especially when they were regarding their marriage. She never thought of it before but maybe it was the time for them to tie the knot, especially now that they were building a family. She couldn’t say that it was something that mattered a lot to her but it would mean that they would be together forever and she wasn’t against the idea either. She might have to talk it out with Jerry when they were out of the public eye for sure.
Her nerves weren’t kicking in this time and she was glad, she could purchase baby products while she was at ease and it was only for the best. “I can’t help it.” She added only as a joke since he teased her with it. He wasn’t against it either now wasn’t he? She smiled at him and her first stop was the cribs. Might as well start with the beginning, right? After all, you could play around with the colors after that and they could decide on an animal to theme it with. “Do you prefer natural wood or painted one?” She wasn’t sure she wanted a completely white room with color accents, it was too bland, she wanted more than that and it was a kid’s room so they were able to go bolder with the color choices if they wanted.

Jerry and Sarah were... maybe not childhood sweethearts, but they dated for a very long time. Longer than Jerry was an artist. He didn't think about breakup with her when they both started their career. He didn't think about moving to someone else. He liked being with Sarah and didn't see why he would like it less just because he had more opportunities. He was not interested in those. And now they were about to have a child together. It would only cement their couple more.
Her feet took her towards the cribs. Jerry was amazed how many different styles there could be. Some that came from the wall. Some that were more round, others more square. And various materials were used too. He couldn't focus on one as he eyes jumped right to another as he did. He focused his attention back on her as she questioned him. He didn't think about it. "I don't know, but I kind of like in that style," he admitted as he touched one that was in light wood, not painted. There were some in darker tones but to him it felt like it might be too dark for a baby's room. Then again, he was no designer and if Sarah liked one, he wouldn't mind. "have you thought of the colors you wanted in the room?" If she told him, he couldn't recall. But he sometimes had difficulties focusing on a conversation if it dragged too long and she knew it, so it shouldn't be a surprised if he forgot the color she wanted to put in there.

Sarah felt comfortable being with Jerry if not more than he was around her. He managed to ease her worries quite often and he was still doing that now. She felt more confident getting into that shop with him than if she would have done that on her own. She could only imagine her worries spreading out in her brain and attacking her peacefulness of mind whenever they wanted. It annoyed her to be like that, and she wished she could have more backbone but she thought she was doing better and certainly hoped that she wasn’t using him too much as an anchor.
She smiled at him as he found one, and she had to agree with the choice; lighter colors always tended to appease people it seemed. “It might work, I want something appeasing for the bedroom since I’ll use it too, might as well go with something that will soothe me too as I don’t want the baby to freak out like I do.” She said, the last part a bit in a joking way. As long as their kid didn’t inherit of that part of her, things would be all right!

Jerry didn't know how Sarah would have reacted if she had to go shopping by herself. Not too well, for sure. She would have been overwhelmed. And hiring an interior designer would have been no good, as he didn't know how much Sarah would dare speak up her mind. With him, she would be more at ease. Because, really, as long as the colors and styles weren't too crazy, he really didn't mind.
Jerry looked at Sarah from time to time, to see how she was doing. She could be quite relaxed but the situation could stress her out. It wasn't like going to buy new clothes or meeting with friends. Rumours will fly after see them together here. Then again, it wasn't like all the people who needed to know didn't know.
Was his choice good? He wouldn't mind picking something else, as it was important it suited her too. Not just the style, but that it was good in height and wouldn't be too hard for her to pick their child from it. He wrapped his arm from behind her to bring her in a hug. "Don't say things like that." He knew she was nervous but she didn't need to diminish herself that way, not even for a joke. "The baby could also be hyperactive with a short attention span," he pointed out. That was his problem after all. "Is it the right size? Can you adjust the height?" he asked. He would be alright, but he wanted to make sure Sarah could also take their baby without struggle.

Sarah was happy and grateful that Jerry was coming along with her to start shopping for furniture. She was aware that they would get media attention from this outing but she was ready for it. She had to be, otherwise, she would break down and while Jerry was definitely there to pick up the pieces, she didn’t want to do that to him or have a bad image because it happened in public. Being with him reassured her on a lot of aspects and while there still had that small voice that worried about the rumours that might come out of this one, she was pretty sure that she was ready for these. What other rumours than her being pregnant might come out? She didn’t want to think furthermore into it and was starting to look at the furniture, as the idea of having a baby was slowly sinking more in her. She touched her stomach as she thought about it, smiling a little at the thought. “Can you believe we’re doing that?” She asked him as she looked around the cribs.
She gave Jerry a wider smile as he spoke to her and hugged him back tightly to show him that she would be fine. “We’re quite a mix I have to admit.” She said with a little laugh. “A nervous baby with a short attention span.” She said trying to joke about it. They were there for happy news and she wanted to keep it that way as much as possible. She looked around the crib as he questioned her. “I think it does but we can look around for more with better options.” She said to him.

Jerry couldn't believe how much stuff there was. He would have thought that a crib, a changing table and a few toys would have been enough, but the place was filled with so many different items. And they were just at the crib still. Maybe Sarah would enjoy shopping with a girl friend too later on. It was in part because he didn't know if she had asked one that he suggested going with her. They were both aware that if no rumours of her being pregnant were yet out, they would definitely be after this.
He looked at her as she asked him if he could believe it. "Why, you would have preferred to buy everything online?" he asked back. In a way, he wouldn't have minded, but felt he then would learn about the importance to getting the right measure of the size of things, how they had to touch the fabrics and inspect the quality and so on. Either way, they were here, it was a bit late to find it unbelievable.
He laughed at the mix she suggested. "Maybe with the short attention span, the baby will forget what got them to be nervous in the first place." Wouldn't that be funny? But also a bit of a nightmare. He hoped that, if their child had to have a mix of their personality, it would be the softspoken yet positive traits.
She wanted to look around a little more. "Of course." He was already moving away from her to let her walk around. "They even have round shaped ones," he pointed out as he saw one. It felt a bit odd to him, but he supposed some people liked it, if it was here. He played with the mobile attached to it, making the smiling moons and stars spin.

Sarah was aware of the variety of things they would have to look through while they’d be shopping here, together and she was aware of the kind of rumours that might be going on and about once they’d be out with all the material they needed – if they found what they were looking for. There were many other shops if this one didn’t content them. “No I think I’d rather be here, where you can actually see things and how big they are.” She wasn’t quite good at picturing everything in her head when it came to planning things of the like. She would rather leave that to a professional but she liked having the idea of how large the crib would be and if it would be big enough to fit in their bedrooms for the first few months.
She smiled and laughed a bit at his suggestion. “That is indeed a possibility we must not forget and could be better for the baby.” She also had hopes that their baby would have the mix of their good sides. There were a lot of compliments she could tell to Jerry as he was always there for her to begin with.
“Am I going to have to watch over you playing with the kid’s toys?” She asked him teasingly when she noticed him playing with the mobile. She didn’t mind, actually it’d be quite endearing to see a father playing with his kid so often. There were a few that caught her attention but she had a question to ask to Jerry. “Do you want darker or lighter tone furniture?” She asked him. She didn’t think she’d want to go too modern either, it felt too cold to her for a baby room. She wanted it to be cozy and welcoming.

Jerry was actually pretty excited to do this. Well, not the shopping. He would judge whatever they'd buy but he also relied more on Sarah's taste than his. It was what that shopping implied that he was excited about. He wasn't even sure they would buy much, if anything at all. And he bet both their mothers would want to help out with that too. It was nice to do it with Sarah though. It might calm her, in case she feared Jerry would disapprove of her choices, or of the child altogether. He never knew how her anxiety would manifest but surely it would help comfort her if he went with her before the news about her pregnancy spread.
"You're right, it would be a pain if it's too big," he admitted. He'd love to have a big house where they could all live together, one they'd own not one they'd rent, but for now he would settle for the best baby room possible. "And the right height for you," he added, teasingly. With the right heels, she could be as tall as he was, but he couldn't imagine her wearing those to hold her baby.
He startled a bit at her quip. He expected her to be teasing him but there was some truth behind it. He shrugged in response. "Maybe. You know how I am with shopping to begin with. And someone has to test them." Jerry had a hard time to stay focus while shopping. He would get bored easily and leave, but he knew he had to focus here. Still, those toys would offer quite the distraction for him. All the more reasons to be careful. He was a bit taken by surprise at her question. He frowned slightly as he looked around to see what could be referred to as 'dark' or 'light' type of furniture by her standard. "I don't know, how dark are we talking?" In truth, whatever she preferred would likely be enough for him.

Having Jerry around helped Sarah’s nerves to calm down and she was glad that he would support her in this. She freaked out so much at the idea he might not want to be a father and when she did think furthermore about it, she thought it was a silly idea. That he might not want a kid. She thought out of the various men on the planet, he would be the most excited about having a family. She just couldn’t help it though, sometimes, her anxiety didn’t let her think rationally and gave her irrational fears such as when she thought Jerry might reject her.
They were shopping for exciting news though and the more she thought about it, the more she was happy that they could do this together. “Besides, there are so many options, I’ve looked online a bit, and that I want to see for myself.” She said to him. There were some cribs that were rocking back and forth on their own, others with sound, and so on! She bet that their mothers would be envious to know what kind of technology is offered to help parents nowadays! She looked at him with a small smile when he teased her, not holding it against him. “I have no problems leaving the care of the baby to you.” She added, just as teasingly. Who said she was the one who would always have to wake up at night for the baby? Jerry could do that too!
She couldn’t help but giggle a bit. She knew that he tended to touch everything he could and didn’t mind. She would too if it required feeling how comfortable the baby could be! “There are dark wood tones or lighter ones or we could go with colors too but I think something natural would be better, no?” She asked him, wondering what his opinion was even if he would let her pick the final choice.

Sarah did look rather nervous when they went to the store, but Jerry could sense she had calmed down now. She looked happy. Which should be the proper thing to feel when shopping for your future child, he thought. It was not like they were running out of time to buy stuff either and, judging by what she was telling him, she had already been looking for a few options that she wanted to see in person now. "Does that mean you already have an idea in mind as to what you want the room to look like?" he asked as he got closer to her. Jerry never cared if they were in public, if he wanted to hold her, he would. Same for kissing. The rest deserved more intimacy, but he was not going to shy away under the pretense that some people might not want to see them together.
"Who knows, maybe it will be our child who will not want me to do it. 'Dad, stop it, that's not how you play with those, you're embarrassing me'" he said, speaking in what he decided was a proper child-like voice before laughing. He would have no problem taking care of the baby at times too. He might not be able to breastfeed a baby but there were plenty other things he could do. Which made him think that they never mentioned if there would be breastfeeding. He supposed now wasn't the place though. Unless they also sold milkers. He thought it might be weird to see it here but, at the same time, it was selling baby products.
He thought Sarah had already expressed her preference for natural wood yet here she was saying it like she questioned him. He wondered if she really wanted to know what he thought or if it was her nerve coming back in and make her self-doubt. "I trust you with that. We've picked colors for the bedroom, right?" He preferred to say we even though he let her choose something she thought would be nice for a baby's room. Like this he figured she might not second-guess that choice also, since they both agreed to it.
