It wasn't like David meant to be put in the friendzone by Issy. Or that he was content with that situation. He was not some sort of simp fine with just loving from a distance and protect the object of his attention from anyne who'd say mean things to her. But Issy put her there and never allowed him out. He thought he had made his feelings clear on more than one occasions over the years. She turned him down, either by not thinking he was serious or refusing to see it. Maybe he should have told her he was done with that attitude and needed a clear answer. But he knew what that answer would be. If nothing had happened between them by now, it was not gonna change anytime soon. He should move on. It was not like he never dated anyone. But Issy was a precious friend and he'd go back to her always. Maybe it was time to find someone else though, and just be the friend she considered him to be. That would hurt less.
But he had to suggest going back to his place for some silly entertain. He knew nothing more would happen. Nothing ever happened. Just snacks, beer and snarky comments thrown at whatever they were looking at. She looked down so she needed it too. He couldn't turn her down just because he needed to move on. He still wanted to be her friend. He was the one who would have to adjust to it and set boundaries. He just didn't care about doing that right now. He nodded as she agreed with the plan. He could then take her back to his place after this. His apartment wasn't much, but it wasn't like she had never seen it before. He was not ashamed of it. Not even of the mess there might be around. A true bachelor's pad, they would joke. At least it didn't smell too bad.

Issy never really believed it whenever David had tried to be more than just friends with her for the mere fact that they had known each other for so long, it was hard for her not to put him in the friend zone. She was comfortable around him and could talk to him about various things. Heck, he probably knew her better than she knew herself at this point and she knew that she could also trust him but the idea of dating him went beyond her. Or the fact that they still went to the movie theatre and she never considered these as dates. Why would they be? They often hung out together and nothing happened between each other. She knew that she could vent to him about arrogant artists that made the world.
She wasn’t aware either that it was hurting his feelings right now. She did not see that kind of thing as she was too worried about her problems to be worried about his friends. That might make her a bad friend but she never realized it that way unless David blew out in front of her and he never did or if he did it was never in an explicit way that would make her understand the matter.
In no time they finished eating the food and she was on her last drink for the time being. No matter what people would say, drinking in a restaurant was more expensive than drinking at home. “You’re ready?” She asked him as she pulled her wallet out, ready to pay for her part.

Daivd knew Issy, for almost all of his life it seemed. They were always together, the two kids that stuck around each other through every event of life. At what point did he start having feeligns for her? Somehow, the fact that she was the one he was the most comfortable around made him fall for her. It didn't work that way for her though. She just grew more comfortable. Now, David had dates before, just like Issy dated guys. He did try to forget about Issy, to consider only as a friend, but maybe their friendship got in the way? Not all women like it when you are that close to another woman.
he felt like Issy may well end their friendship, finding it too awkward if he were to confess. And since she showed no sign of being interested, he didn't want to take the risk and test that theory. Perhaps if he were more like his big brother James? He had always been the cooler one. David even wondered at times if he was not Issy's type, if she ever crushed on him before. Maybe James would have made a move. But david did not.
She was ready to go. He nodded, finishing his last bite as he too pulled out his wallet. "Any idea what you want to watch or we should just pick whichever sounds the dumbest to comment on it?" He was fine either way. He always enjoyed time with her, no matter how bittersweet.

Issy had always been happy to spend time with David for various reasons and one of them was that she was comfortable with him. She didn’t feel the pressure of prepping herself to impress him, nor did the idea to date him cross her mind. He was the closest person she had as a friend and she was fine with just that. Besides, she wasn’t in a mood to date at the moment as she preferred to focus on the career she might get, or not get depending on how things went. Hopefully, she wouldn’t have to worry about too many noisy stars, or else she might just quit what she was doing!
Now that they were over with their dine-out and she pondered over his question. That was a difficult choice. “Let’s go with a scary movie.” Some of these were just so dumb, why was the girl always running upstairs and just not out of the house while there was a murderer in? It always seemed much more complicated than how it could be!

Scary movie was he choice. David liked a good scary ovie. Or a bad one, they were fun to laugh at. Some of the deaths were so ludicrous or the reasoning behind all of it so out of it that it could become entertaining. Not to add the bad practical effects. A big budget did not even guarantee the effects would be good. Sure, that was maybe something he paid closer attention to than Issy, because it was more in line with his job, but it was soemthing they could both comment on. David wouldn't normally like people talking while watching a movie, but their movie nights, at least of that kind, were not just to watch a film but precisely to comment along the way. It was fine to not watch with as much attention, or pick something they had seen a dozen times.
"Scary movie it is. I'm sure we can find one we haven't seen yet." Even if they had to pick some foreign one. Hey, they might even be better than what Hollywood had to offer! Or have even worse practicl effects, which would still entertain them in the end.
So they went to David's place. Issy should know it by now, or so he assumed. His little bachelor's pad he tried to keep tidy enough as to not make any who entered run away in panic without caring too much with how clean it had to be. At least there weren't any dirty dishes waiting for bugs to rest upon. "You can pick something if you find anything," he told her, gesturing to the couch as he dropped his stuff. He didn't think Issy would be shy to turn on the tv and start looking while he got them drinks and snacks if she wanted. But they ate so he figured he could wait for the snacks for now.

Issy also liked to have a good scare even if it would get a few sears from her if she had a real jump scare. Besides, some were quite hilarious if they had the wrong effects and she knew that David would enjoy the idea of being able to comment on the movie as much as they liked unlike whenever they went to the theatre together. Sure, the ambiance was more like it when they were in there but they could manage something in either of their living rooms. She laughed at the idea that they hadn’t seen one yet. “Yeah, I’m sure there’re new ones we haven’t touched yet or even the older ones!” She said, looking forward to it and it was a good idea to her. Besides, sometimes, the older ones were the scariest ones!
“Besides, even with the special effects, sometimes, the newest ones aren’t as scary as the ones they made before.” She said. “What we have to figure out is if we want a ghost story or if we want a murder one.” There were various types they could pick from and she wondered whether he was feeling more into jump scares or watching people getting murdered.
She nodded at him as they made it to his place and smiled as she went to sit on the couch of the living room she knew well. It made her feel at home and got the remote control to start checking on the movies that they had the possibility to watch.

There was something a litte pathetic is liking someone who saw you only as a friend. David thought it could be worse, at least she acknowledged him. She knew he existed. At the same time though, it hurt even more as it made it all the mre clearer she didn't want more of him. Still, David couldn't help it. If he could spend some time with her, he would. Even if she'd laugh at the idea of him liking her, he would. In a way, he liked it how she had been annoyed that he took longer to meet with her due to his work. He liked to think she may be a little bit jealous. He didn't want to think it was her being selfish.
He would take all the horror movies with her too. "I heard of one, but I think it's meant to be more campy than scary," he said. He didn't mind. It meant the movie was aware people would have a laugh at its horror. She laid out the options for tonight. "Or the ghost of a murderer," he added, certain that someone has done that before. "Or you remember the one with the haunted pair of jeans?" He couldn't believe someone thought of something like that.
He let her check for a movie while he got them everything ready for their movie night. He had a thought about the chance of her ending up sleeping here because she'd be too tired to go home. He pushed the thought aside, as he knew it would lead to nothing.
"Found anything?" he asked instead as he returned to the couch next to her, beer and snacks for them in hands.

Issy was totally clueless to the idea that David might be her friend mostly because he might be infatuated with her. She did believe in the theory that friendship between males and females was possible and thought that her case with David right here was just the proof. They had known each other for so long that he turned out to be like a sibling, the one relative she would have loved to have. Don’t get her wrong, she did care for Casey, her cousin, but it wasn’t the same. She always felt like people who knew they were related were expecting her to be as extraordinary as she was and truth was that she wasn’t, or at least, she believed she wasn’t.
She decided to focus on what they were supposed to do, watch a scary movie together. “Really? What is it?” She asked curious. “Is that a new one or one we haven’t seen? I’d be down to try even if it’s just to comment how lame the storyline is.” She said. She was willing to hear him out on that one. She laughed when he reminded her of that dumb movie. “It was so stupid but it was funny to watch.” She conceded and grinned at him. “The Crow? You want to watch birds killing people?” She asked amused at the idea. It was a recent one, but she never found those believable and it might be what she needed no matter how silly it sounded.

David told himself that it would be fine. At lest Issy was not the type to scream and hug onto whoever was nearby out of fear while watching a horror movie. That would make things painful for him. And feel all the more pathetic to just let her put him in this spot when he wanted more. He couldn't help it. It wasn't like he never dated anyone. But he had a hard time not giving the priority to Issy. Besides, he had reasons to feel a bit awkward tonight. She acted almost jealous, or at the very least upset, that he spent so much time working on a music video for Lindsey Bates. It wasn't like she had the worst day at work and needed to have him around to vent out. Maybe it had not been perfect, but she had worse. So it led him to hope maybe he did mean something more to her, if only a little. But she quickly acted like usual and he couldn't just bring it up. Well, at least it could have been worse, he thought. It wasn't like they were sleeping together as well while he meant nothing to her. Now that would be a complicated a pathetic situation!
He brought drinks and some snacks for later, if they wanted and once their meal would be down enough to have them hungry again. "I dont't remember the name but I can try and find it," he suggested. Somehow, horror and humor often went together. It wasn't always great, it was often low budget to not say cheap, but it was a genre that could be fun at times. "That title was an insult to Brandon Lee," he conceded. To have a movie named like the same thing that was not only a good movie but the one where a rising star died, and be this bad, it sure was an insult.
He navigated through the streaming service until he found the one he talked about. "Have you seen it already?"

Isabella wasn’t aware of the feelings that David had for her, if she did, she probably might have done something about it. They were friends forever, she could hardly imagine him being more than that. Perhaps, like a sibling? She had to think of it that way. He was more like family to her than anything else. Though, the idea that he would spend a day filming and gazing at Lindsey Bates didn’t please her much either. Did that make her a horrible friend? Was he allowed to vent too if he wanted? She started to doubt, perhaps she was the worst here in this case. She tried not to think furthermore about this and decided to focus on the movies. Watching birds killing people was definitely something that would change both of their minds.
“You’re giving me an all-star treatment, thanks.” She said to him, grinning at the idea. She laughed, agreeing with him. “I agree, they were terrible at finding a title though I have to give them the fact that it can be hard at times.” She too would sometimes struggle at finding the perfect title for her songs. It wasn’t as easy as one would think!
“Not yet, I think tonight is a good night to do so.” She said to him, setting herself to get comfortable on his sofa.

David wouldn't say Isabella was cruel. It was not like she forbade him from dating other women despite turning him down constantly. He was in a cruel position though. He shoudl probably get out of it. He tried in the past, and his girlfriends tended to dump him because they felt like they came second. They were not all blaming Isabella, some would just say his friends in general, but he knew what they meant even if he didn't want to agree. Still, he couldn't help but think a guy like his brother with his more free-spirited attitude and bad boy style was more to her type. Yes, that was a cruel position indeed.
He found the movie Issy talked about which was luckily on a streaming platform he was signed up to. They really started to get too many of those, they were turning them into regular tv! Luckily I don't have to bother about it. I just push lights where I'm asked to." Issy must have struggled naming some songs then. As far as he was concerned, she could just call it Song number __ and it would be fine. But he supposed that didn't work that way, unless you were Blur.
"It is always a good night to watch a cheap horror film." And it meant some more time with Issy. He didn't care what it was for. They could go do whatever, even just have her come over to complain all night long as she gets more and more drunk, he'd be fine. At least he'd feel like that was something she could only do with him and that meant something. But he pushed those thoughts away to try and focus on the film, regardless of its quality.

Isabella didn’t always notice David’s moves, or attempts to move their friendship towards more. To her, he was more like a sibling, someone she could always rely on and never truly considered him as a potential boyfriend. Though, she couldn’t say they ever had that serious discussion, to truly establish where their friendship stood or should stand. They didn’t even set their boundaries and she didn’t completely turn him down either. Besides, she wasn’t ready for that and wanted to focus on music.
She nodded and smiled, feeling the alcohol slowly sinking in. It gave a good sensation, but sometimes, in the morning she would regret it. She couldn’t say she was drunk now though, but she was relaxed enough to stop worrying about their jobs as she was done complaining and was ready to relax some more while watching dumb movies with David.
“Of course, you never know what to expect with those.” She had to agree with him, it was fun watching those movies even if they weren’t that good. She liked watching the poor special effects they would add to movies when they had a low budget. Sometimes, though, she had to give them credit for creativity for the same reason. “Thanks for letting me complain, David, I promise I’m done for the rest of the evening.” She let out.

It was a nice tradition of theirs, watching stupid movies they didn't care enough about. They could make fun of it at leisure or even start talking of something else entirely while it played in the background. Then again, Issy might have been done complaining about her job and the people she had to work with sometimes. David didn't complain nearly as much. He did find some funny not-so-kind nicknames for some of his more annoying coworkers with Issy, but he didn't share things unless he thought it was interesting enough to. She didn't even seem to like the job he did that day, which was kind of funny. But David was not going to assume it was because she didn't like him lighting up a sexy woman all day and more because she had a rather low opinion of her while being bothered she was the kind to be promoted over hard-working artists like herself. Again, better not go there.
"Yes, maybe it won't look nearly as cheap as it really is," he joked as he started it. They were sat down comfortably now, with food and drinks. He also liked those nights because he could be close to her. He knew it was not right, that it would hurt less if he set proper boundaries and put some distance between them. But it also felt nice, something good to go along with the pain.
She thanked him. In another reality, she'd probably rest against him while saying there but she was sinking in her side of the couch while he remained on his. "Don't worry about it," he replied as the movie started. He was ready to forget about this for the approximatively one hour and forty-five minutes of the movie. Perhaps he would even have a good laugh at times. And forget how else that scene could play out.
